Sardinia beaches in the province of Carbonia-Iglesias lack the popularity of those famous beaches located in regions such as Chia, Pula, Teulada, Villasimius and Costa Rei. However, this has its noticeable advantages - the Carbonia-Iglesias beaches are not overcrowded, and their natural beauty and non-urbanized charm will appeal to tourists seeking peace and relaxation.
Carbonia-Iglesias has a long, beautiful, rocky coast, while its hinterland is full of natural caves and mines.

Cala Domestica
Cala Domestica beach, Buggerru | Sardinia, Italy |
Cala Domestica is a small but absolutely gorgeous beach located at the southern tip of Costa Verde not far away from the small town of Buggerru. This hidden and secluded beach is still one of the most unknown parts of Sardinia island.
Spiaggia di Cala Domestica is an idyllic and somewhat secret Meditteranean gem. Its emerald-colored waters are surrounded by impressive, high cliffs and dunes, while its fine sand is mixed with gravel and dotted with rocks - a truly spectacular sight to behold.

Cala Domestica beach used to be a harbor and a mining site for many different minerals - some ruins of the mining buildings are still standing over the dunes.
How to get there: the easiest way to reach Cala Domestica is to travel by car from Cagliari to Iglesias and then to Buggerru. Pay in mind though that it's going to be a long way drive through the narrow and rather steep mountain roads so go there early and avoid traveling after dark.

Spiaggia di Cala Domestica offers some useful facilities like a large car-park, camper and van area, a nice campsite and easy access boardwalk.
Travel tip: Cala Domestica beach offers a great opportunity to admire the exquisite and varied submarine world. It's one of the best spots in Sardinia for snorkeling and underwater fishing enthusiasts.
Travel tip: beach equipment facilities are not always available (especially in low season).

Cala Domestica Small Cave (Grotta Spiaggetta), Buggerru | Sardinia, Italy |
Spiaggia di Cala Domestica is a wonderful hidden gem by itself, but a narrow tunnel on the right of the beach (Grotta Spiaggetta or the Small Cave) leads to the second, even more secret cove.
For us, the very view of this short tunnel affects the uniqueness of Cala Domestica beach. It's so amusing that such a small cave can so wonderfully combine the history and the natural aspect of Cala Domestica beach with a sense of discovering something new and unusual.

La Caletta
Cala Domestica La Caletta beach, Buggerru | Sardinia, Italy |
After leaving the Grotta Spiaggetta tunnel, you will see a small beach sheltered from the wind, called La Caletta (there is another La Caletta beach in the province of Nuoro, East Sardinia). The beach itself does not offer too much space or any facilities for tourists, however, this is part of its charm.
The grandeur high cliffs shelter Spiaggia di La Caletta on all sides, making it a cozy and friendly spot for couples.

Travel tip: an old Spanish Tower (Torre di Cala Domestica) overlooks both Cala Domestica and La Caletta and it offers amazing views on the panorama. To access it, you need to climb up to the promontory on the left of Cala Domestica (there is a path leading to it from the beach).

Travel tip: in the high season La Calleta beach can fill up quickly, so it's worth visiting it in the early hours of the morning.
